Bulgaria was an unexpected jewel on our trip. Our plan to get in and out in a rather rapid way along the scenic Black Sea Coast was foiled when we were hit by what may have been the scariest thunder storm of my life (even more so than the “Run Sherrie We Are Going To Die” episode in Japan). The lightening was crashing down AROUND us at one point, and I was literally whimpering into my helmet the entire ride up to the monastery. The result however was a detour in the direction of Sophia, and our 2 days turned into a full week of some of the best riding on the entire trip.
And that part where I am riding circles around and around and around that campsite was terrifying. I don´t care how tiny it looked, it FELT huge for a newbie rider. That is my story and I am sticking to it!
